Terms & Conditions of ABW International Award

Article 1: The Organizer

ART BOOKS WANTED International Award is organized by the international publishing house EDITION LIDU with the goal of presenting and supporting Art and Book culture worldwide. EDITION LIDU, with editors offices in Prague, focuses on producing quality ART & GRAPHIC BOOKS, original CHILDREN'S BOOKS and NEW MEDIA PROJECTS.

EDITION LIDU registered in the trade register in Prague as follows - BcA. Ludmila Favardin, DiS., Zlatnická 12, 110 00 Praha 1, Czech Republic, IC/ID: 75315939 | DIC/VAT: CZ8353260146, and from here forth referred to as EDITION LIDU.

Article 2: Who Can Participate

ART BOOKS WANTED International Award is open to established and emerging artists, illustrators, graphic designers, typographers, photographers, designers, writers, small or independent publishers, museums & galleries and art & design students and from here forth referred to as "Author(s)". Submissions are welcome from individuals and creative studios/teams. There are no age, language or nationality limitations.

Article 3: What is eligible

ART BOOKS WANTED International Award is eligible for these Book propositions:

- Author's books, zines and catalogs
- Artist's books, zines and catalogs
- Graphic books, zines and catalogs
- Design books, zines and catalogs
- Typography books, zines and catalogs
- Photography books, zines and catalogs, both Art or Documentary
- Comic strips, both classical and experimental
- Graphic novels, fiction and non-fiction
- Illustrated short stories or poetry
- Books and Albums for children with or without text
- Folding picture books with or without text
- Pop-up books with or without text
- Activity books and zines with or without text
- Teaching aids with original concept
- Hand-printed books, zines and catalogs
- Interactive books, made from paper, cardboard, textile and other materials
- Tactile books, made from paper, cardboard, textile and other materials
- Animated storybooks
- Interactive books and stories using digital media (iPad, iPhone, Touchpad, Mac, PC, etc.) both published and unpublished
- Physical books which interact with a digital media project
- Other original book forms which are not mentioned above

All book propositions mentioned above can be:

- prototype/model in volume or layout (PDF, JPG, TIFF, PNG, etc.) designed for publishing
- created as a unique piece of art, which is mentioned not to be reproduced
- self-published in limited edition or small edition
- digital media (iBooks, ePub, APPS, MAC/PC Apps, etc.) published or unpublished

There are no limitations in the subject matter, style or used media of the Book propositions and from here forth referred to as "Artwork(s)".

Each Author can submit more Artworks. For each Artwork new Submission form has to be filled in and the Author has to make the payment of the Submission Fee for each Artwork separately.

Article 4.1: Registration

To take part in the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award all Authors have to Register, fill in all the necessary information in the submission form (PDF Form or Online Form), send presentable photos or physical copy/prototype of the Artwork and pay the Submission Fee.

Authors have multiple possibilities of Registration:

4.1.1 - Register via online Submission form at www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted/submissions
4.1.2 - Register via e-mail. Download the Submission Form in PDF here. Send the filled Submission form by e-mail to abw[at]editionlidu.com
4.1.3 - Send paper registration by post/mail or in person to the editor office. For this option read article 4.2.1.

Article 4.2: Submissions

Each Author can submit more Artworks. For each Artwork new Submission form has to be filled in and the Author has to make the payment of the Submission Fee for each Artwork separately.

Authors have multiple possibilities of Submissions of the Artwork:

4.2.1 - Send a physical copy/prototype of the Artwork or printed photos/poster/catalog or CD/DVD by post/mail or deliver it in person. In your package/envelope join the printed and filled Submission Form (Download the Paper Submission Form in PDF here).

4.2.2 - Send photos of the Artwork by e-mail at abw[at]editionlidu.com

4.2.3 - Send bigger files (high resolution photos, videos, animations) by YouSendIt  (www.yousendit.com), by Dropbox  (www.dropbox.com), etc.

Article 5: Submission Fee & Payment

To take part in the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award all Authors have to pay the Submission Fee.

The amount of the Submission Fee will be stated on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted. Without the payment of the Submission Fee the Submission is not valid and the Artwork will be excluded from the Selection Process. The Submission Fee is not refundable under any circumstances.

Authors have multiple possibilities of Payment:

5.1 - Online Payment by Paypal or Credit Card
5.2 - Payment by Bank Transfer. For Bank Transfer Instructions download the PDF here.
5.3 - Payment in cash at our office: EDITION LIDU, Zlatnická 12, 110 00 Praha 1, Czech Republic.

By paying the Submission fee the Author is not automatically suitable to receive the benefits associated with the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award. The Author will receive the benefits only if he/she is selected in the 1st and/or the 2nd round.

Article 6: Submission Deadline

The Deadline for Submissions of the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award is stated on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted. Submissions which will be delivered to EDITION LIDU after the official deadline will be excluded from the Selection Process.

Article 7: Selection Criteria

The Art direction of EDITION LIDU and The Jury will examine the submissions according to the following criteria:

- Creativity, originality, innovation, aesthetic quality.
- Quality of presentation, maturity of the Artwork, detail.

In addition to these criteria, EDITION LIDU will consider also the possibility of the publication and production of submitted Artwork.

Article 8.1: The Selection Process

Artworks will be evaluated in 2 rounds:

1st round: After the official submission deadline, all submitted Artworks which fulfill Terms and Conditions of the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award will be evaluated by the Art direction of EDITION LIDU. The Art direction of EDITION LIDU will select up to 50 Artworks.
2nd round: Artworks which were selected in the 1st round will be evaluated by The JURY (The members of the jury will be announced on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted). The JURY will select up to 12 Artworks which will be AWARDED and the authors will receive an official diploma from EDITION LIDU's ART BOOKS WANTED International Award, then The JURY will vote for 1 BEST ARTWORK (The WINNER) who will receive the PRIZE. The JURY can decide to give special additional AWARDS. You will find up-to-date information on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted.

Every submitted Artwork which doesn't fulfill the Selection Criteria stated in article 7 will be excluded from the Selection Process.
EDITION LIDU and The JURY reserves the right to select less than 50 Artworks in the 1st round, less than 12 Artworks in the 2nd round in case of low quality of submitted Artworks.
EDITION LIDU also reserves the right not to consider any of submitted projects for publishing.
EDITION LIDU also reserves the right to start a cooperation with Authors and consider for publishing Artworks selected in the 1st and 2nd round.

Article 8.2: The Prize

The Jury will vote for 1 BEST ARTWORK that will receive the PRIZE and an official diploma from EDITION LIDU's ART BOOKS WANTED International Award and from here forth referred to as "The WINNER". The PRIZE will be variable from each ART BOOKS WANTED International Award competitions. Up-to-date information about the Actual Rewards can be found on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted. The WINNER has to be reachable by e-mail and/or phone which has been filled in the Submission Form.

8.2.1 - In case of Money Reward, The WINNER will receive the PRIZE:
A - By Paypal transfer. The amount will be sent from the e-mail address: sales[at]editionlidu.com (The WINNER will be contacted by e-mail to confirm his Paypal e-mail address).
B - By Bank Transfer. The amount will be sent from the account of EDITION LIDU (The WINNER will be contacted by e-mail to confirm his Bank Account details).

8.2.2 - In case of Goods/Materials Reward, The WINNER will receive the PRIZE:
A - By Post delivery (The WINNER will be contacted by e-mail to confirm his Delivery address).
B - By Pickup From EDITION LIDU's office (The WINNER will be contacted by e-mail to set up a pickup date and hour).

Depending on the conditions of the PRIZE stated on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted, EDITION LIDU reserves the right to choose the type of payment and the Delivery conditions.

8.2.3 - EDITION LIDU reserves the right to nullify The WINNER's rights to receive the PRIZE and other benefits associated with the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award and will take the necessary legal mesures in following cases:
A - If The WINNER does not respond and confirm the details asked by EDITION LIDU within 30 days from the date EDITION LIDU contacted The WINNER by e-mail.
B - If the WINNER does not respect the Terms and Conditions of the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award.
C - If The WINNER puts EDITON LIDU in any conflictual situation.

Article 9: Awards & Presentation of Authors

Artworks and Authors selected in the 1st round will be presented on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted and communicated via the official Newsletter internationally.

The WINNER and Authors selected in the 2nd round will be presented in THE SELECTION of outstanding projects on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted and/or www.editionlidu.com and communicated internationally to art and design magazines, museums, institutions and other media.

Selected Authors might have the opportunity to show their work during international exhibitions and will be considered for publishing by EDITION LIDU. Additional awards can be presented due to ART BOOKS WANTED International Award Partners. You will find up-to-date information on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted.

Authors selected to be published will be contacted by e-mail or letter and further communication will be only between EDITION LIDU and the Author. If the Artwork fulfill all necessary conditions, EDITION LIDU will prepare the Publishing Contract for the Author before the Publishing or/and the Selling or Distribution of the Artwork.

Article 10: Intellectual Property, Copyrights and Publishing

By submitting Artworks to the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award organized by EDITION LIDU, the Author guarantee to EDITION LIDU that submitted Artworks and related texts are the Intellectual Property and Ownership of the Author and will in no way prejudice, in whole or in part, the rights of third parties.
10.1 - If the Artwork contains parts (images or texts) which are the Intellectual Property of third parties, Authors of these parts of the Artwork has to be named and must agree with the presentation in the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award and possible Publishing or/and the Selling or Distribution of the Artwork. In case of using a text by a well known writer (living or nonliving) the creator of the text has to be stated in the submission form sent by the Author to EDITION LIDU.

10.2.1 - The Author guarantee that neither Artworks which have been submitted are or will be exploited commercially by a third party while they are being exhibited internationally or considered for publishing by EDITION LIDU.

10.2.2 - If the submitted Artwork (selected in the 1st and 2nd round included The WINNER) is aimed for publishing, the Author has to first offer the Artwork for publishing to EDITION LIDU before offering the Artwork to a third party (another publisher, editor, etc.).
EDITION LIDU has to confirm officially to the Author in writing that EDITION LIDU does not want to publish the Artwork and the Author has the permission to offer the Artwork to a third party.

If the Author does not respect the Terms and Conditions of the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award, he/she will be disqualified and will not receive the AWARD/PRIZE.
If the Artwork is published and exploited commercially by a third party without a written permission from EDITION LIDU, EDITION LIDU will take the necessary legal measures to resolve any inconvenience caused by the Author to EDITION LIDU and ART BOOKS WANTED International Award.

The Article 10.2.2 applies for 1 year period (365 days) from the official date of the announcement of the results of ART BOOKS WANTED International Award (stated on the website www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted).
The Article 10.2.2 does not apply to Artworks that are already published by a third party. If the Artwork was already published by a third party it has to be stated in the submission form sent by the Author to EDITION LIDU.

10.3 - The Author guarantee that all submitted information (date of the Artwork, Biography information, contact information, etc.) are correct. All physically sent Artworks and documents will remain the propriety of EDITION LIDU and will not be returned.

EDITION LIDU will pay attention to represent the Author and the Artwork respectfully and to protect Author copyrights.

10.4 - The Author agrees that in the case of being selected in the 1st and/or 2nd round, he/she has the obligation to send the Artwork (in Volume / on Paper) or a presentable prototype/model or documentation to EDITION LIDU at his/her own cost. All physically sent Artworks and documents will remain in THE ART BOOK COLLECTION of EDITION LIDU and will not be returned.

Article 11: Data Protection

EDITION LIDU holds the right to electronically save and process all Authors information regarding the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award Selection Process. EDITION LIDU does not exchange or use authors data within its business partners. EDITION LIDU ensure strict protection of personal data, in accordance with the law.

Article 12: Permission to Publish and Communicate

By submitting Artworks to the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award organized by EDITION LIDU, the Author accepts that his/her Artworks will be presented on the website www.editionlidu.com or/and www.editionlidu.com/artbookswanted and in printed, online and other media in connection with the presentation of ART BOOKS WANTED International Award and Authors with the intent to open further possibilities for Artists to present their work.

Authors expressly authorize EDITION LIDU to use their name, images and physically sent Artworks in relation to the presentation, use, publication or distribution of the Artwork. All physically sent Artworks and documents will remain the propriety of EDITION LIDU and will not be returned.

Authors, creative studios, art and design schools, Journalists, Online Magazines, Blogs and other media can communicate the OFFICIAL images and texts related to the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award organized by EDITION LIDU. In the intent to present Authors, ART BOOKS WANTED International Award and EDITION LIDU in general.

Article 13: Final Assignations

By sending the Submission Form (Online, E-mail or Paper Submission Form), the Author agrees that he/she will receive the official ART BOOKS WANTED International Award Newsletter.

In case the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award is canceled or interrupted in any phase by force majeure, EDITION LIDU is not obligated to fulfill liabilities mentioned in the Terms and Conditions of the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award.

If the Author does not respect the Terms and Conditions of the ART BOOKS WANTED International Award stated on the website at www.editionlidu.com/terms-and-conditions-abw, EDITION LIDU will take the necessary legal measures to resolve any inconvenience caused by the Author to EDITION LIDU and ART BOOKS WANTED International Award.
